Purchase Plan Poll: Xbox One and PS4 Neck-and-Neck In US, PS4 Ahead Elsewhere
Psephology, generally, runs economics a close second in the race to be crowned the most dismal science, but polling data can identify some interesting patterns. So it is with an Ipsos poll commissioned by Ubisoft on the advent of the next-generation consoles.

The survey was taken online by sample sets of around 1000 representative consumers in each of the US, Britain and France between November 8 and 11, and investigated the consumer behavior of those responding. Notable first is that 34% of those polled said that they never played video games (and thus, some wag will no doubt observe, are the target market for the Xbox One). Those identifiable as “gamers” – playing at least once a week – made up 39-40% of the sample set.

Things get interesting at the questions regarding purchasing plans. In total, Sony's PlayStation 4 edged ahead of the Xbox One, with 9% agreeing with the statement “I am considering buying this by the end of the year” and 13% “I am considering buying this in the next 12 months”. Xbox One had 8% and 10% respectively.

Breaking down the results by geography, PS4 and Xbox One were in fact neck and neck in the US for partisans, with 15% considering buying either by the end of 2013. Sony carried the momentum that saw them finally outsell the Xbox 360 in the US in recent months into 2014, with 18% considering a PS4 purchase in the next 12 months over 16% for the Xbox One. Great Britain also saw an even split, with 5% considering a 2013 purchase of either console, and a small, 9% to 8%, split in favor of the Xbox One in the next 12 months.

In France, the cliché of Sony being the European’s choice is perpetuated, with relatively clear blue water in both fields – with the PS4 at 4% and the Xbox One at 2% for “considering buying by the end of the year” and PS4 9% to the Microsoft MSFT +0.77% device’s 3% in “considering buying in the next 12 months”. 77% of the set also said that they were not planning to buy on Xbox One at all, 11% more than said the same of the PlayStation 4, whereas the gap in the UK and US was a more conservative 4% in Sony’s favor (73% were not planning to buy an Xbox One in the US compared with 69% not planning to buy a PS4, with the proportions 49% to 45% in the UK).

Of those who did intend to buy a next-generation console, the laurel for the publisher with the most innovative next-gen product line went narrowly to Ubisoft (readers may recall that the report was commissioned but not conducted by Ubisoft), with their 17% leading EA’s 16% due to 11 votes in the 18-35 male age group. Activision came in third with a 12% rating, although they can be comforted that nearly a third of the same set said that Call of Duty: Ghosts was the title they were most excited about playing on their next-generation console, with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Battlefield 4 some distance behind.

What does this tell us? Not a huge amount, given the sample size, but it does seem broadly to reflect the expected trends. Sony, which was playing second fiddle to Microsoft in sales for much of the last generation, is strong out of the blocks this time around, with a combination of pricing, marketing and maladroit steps by Microsoft in the early running. With that said, possibly the most interesting statistic is not immediately connected to the next-gen race at all. In answer to the question ”Which, if any, of the following gaming devices have you personally used to play videogames in the past 12 months”, the three highest-placed answers across the three regions were smartphone (30%), Wii or Wii U (25%) and tablet (21%), with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 at 17% and 16%. The next generation gaming device, as far as the mass market is concerned, will have an integrated screen and touch controls.

‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ developer talks PS4 and Xbox One power difference
Balázs Török of CD Projekt Red has shared information in regards to the power difference of the PS4 and Xbox One while developing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for next-generation home consoles. In an interview with Eurogamer that was published on Nov. 28, the lead engine programmer revealed that there isn’t a “major power difference” between the two consoles when it comes to pure computation power.

Balázs Török went on to share that the Xbox One is easy to understand because the hardware is similar to the PC. According to Török, the Xbox One’s SDK and API are similar to what you would find on a PC.

While discussing the PS4, Török disclosed that the system is a little “bit more complicated” when compared to the Xbox One. Find Török’s full comment below:

"The Xbox One is pretty easy to understand because not just the hardware is similar to the PC, but everything like the SDK, the API is really similar to what you would find on a PC. On PS4 this is a little bit more complicated, but I personally worked on PS3 before.”

While talking about the difference between the two, Török notes that the memory is very different. On the PlayStation 4, you have fast memory and Török expressed great happiness in that.

However, when it comes to pure computation power, there is no major difference between the Xbox One and the PS4. Find his full comment on memory and computation difference below:

"I don't see a major power difference. The memory is very different but I already said that before. Pure computation power, if you just measure that, there's no major difference. On the PS4 it's very good to have the fast memory. Everyone is really happy about that - but the problem is the game has to function on everything.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2014. New footage from the title will debut on Dec. 7 during the Spike TV VGX television event. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in North America when the title launches in 2014.

Απ' ότι έχω δει, διαβάσει και ακούσει το PS4 είναι καλύτερο..

Δεν υπαρχει καλυτερο μηχανημα.Το οτι το ps4 ειναι λιγο πιο δυνατο στα specs δεν σημαινει και καλυτερο.Για καποιον που θελει μονο γραφικα ναι ειναι καλυτερο,αλλα απο την αλλη και για καποιον που θελει καλο online κομματι το xbox ειναι ανωτερο.Οτι και να παρει καποιος χαμενος δεν θα βγει.Και οι 2 κονσολες ειναι πολυ καλες.Το βασικο κριτηριο αγορας ειναι τα exclusives.Τι να το κανει καποιος το ps4 αν θελει να παιζει halo για παραδειγμα.Ειναι σαν να συγκρινεις μια Mercedes με μια BMW.Δεν υπαρχει σωστο ή λαθος.
