N.O.V.A. 3 Comes to Major League Gaming
Usually, iOS gaming is fun, but it doesn't pay the bills. Now it can, because N.O.V.A. 3 is an official Major League Gaming title. Rack up the most online deathmatch kills between now and August 26, and you'll win $250. All you have to do is link your Gameloft Live and MLG accounts (which you can do here), and then start pwning n00bs.

N.O.V.A. 3 is the second mobile game to come to MLG, after Gameloft's own Modern Combat 3. The matches are cross-platform, so you'll be competing against people on Android devices as well.

The MLG leaderboards track a number of statistics, like kill streaks, flags captured, wins, and headshots, but right now it's total kills that can win you the monetary prizes. Even if you don't win, it's fun to see your name in lights on the MLG leaderboard.

Nokia Dominates Global Windows Phone Market Share, Not So Much In The US

Εικόνα

Nokia was the big latecomer to the Windows Phone 7 party, but it wasted no time in securing a dominant position for itself once it did arrive. Since then, it’s seen some incredible growth, capturing the majority of the global Windows Phone market.

According to figures from Localytics, Nokia accounted for half of all Windows Phone models in use around the world as of this past May. That figure’s only grown since, and Nokia’s currently holding a 59% share. HTC is Nokia’s closest competitor, but it only has a third as many users as Nokia; Samsung’s even less popular. At least for those two companies, even if their proportional share seems to be dropping, they appear to be roughly holding on to the same total number of users.

When we just look at the US, the situation is more of a dead heat. Here, HTC has a slight lead, and Samsung’s a bit behind, but the distribution is much closer to a three-way split between those two and Nokia.

We’re curious to see how these trends are affected by the release of Windows Phone 8. Will Nokia’s share continue to grow, or will there some new-found competition between these manufacturers?

Reinstaller helps you download apps and games to your Nokia Lumia

Εικόνα

When it’s time to upgrade from your current Lumia to the new Nokia Lumia 920 or Lumia 820, there’s one simple way to reinstall all your apps or games to the new device. Reinstaller downloads them all for you, saving you the time and energy.

Reinstaller is one of the first apps you’ll want to install when you get your new phone as you’ll want to spend all your time enjoying the actual phone, rather then searching through Windows Phone Store for all your favourite apps and games.

Εικόνα
Εικόνα

When you run Reinstaller, you’ll be welcomed by four tiles: Connect, Install, Review and Share.

Hitting the Connect tile asks you to log into your Windows Live account so that the app can trawl through your download history from Windows Phone Store. We tested it on a Nokia Lumia 800 and it took less than a minute to produce a Final App Count of 116. Installing all of the apps and games would obviously take longer, but its speedy retrieval impressed us.

If you want to install all of those apps or games there and then, pressing install will do just that.

Εικόνα

Alternatively, if you want to pick and choose what you want to install, press back and cherry-pick the items by unticking the boxes, followed by install.

Unfortunately, the installation of all the content isn’t automatic from this point and you’ll be asked to confirm each install – which means that you can’t just press install and leave the app to do its thing. We’re hoping the developers are working on making this more automatic. Even taking this into consideration, this is still much easier than manually searching for all your downloaded content.

Whether you’re moving from one of the current Nokia Lumias to the new Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, or moving from one Windows Phone to another, Reinstaller app is a must-have.

Have you used Reinstaller, or do you think you’ll use it when you upgrade to the new Lumia smartphones? Let us know, in the comments below.

Ubuntu lands on Nexus 7 slates with Canonical's one-click installer
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/27/ubuntu-nexus-7-installer/

Εικόνα

If you'd rather not let your Nexus 7 live out its life as a Jelly Bean-toting device, Canonical's freshly minted Ubuntu Nexus 7 Desktop Installer can help. Instead of allowing Ubuntu to ride shotgun with Android, the installer requires unlocking the device's bootloader, which wipes the slate clean. Once the Nexus 7 is unlocked, started in fastboot mode and connected to an Ubuntu machine, the one-click installation software takes care of the rest. Roughly 10 to 15 minutes later, your tablet will be running full-blown Ubuntu. Since development is currently focused on getting the core of the desktop OS up and running, there's no tablet-specific Unity UI to see here. However, Raring Ringtail is set to flesh out the mobile experience with an emphasis on sensors, memory footprint and battery life, among other features. Those who regret ousting Google's confection-themed operating system can simply reload their device with stock Android. For the entire walk through, hit the first source link below.

Microsoft adds WP8 app to Windows Store just in time for launch

If you're aiming to get your hands on one of the many Windows Phone 8 devices launching later today, it would be nice to be able to sync it with your Windows 8 PC, no? Redmond has you covered in the nick of time, as it's just released the free Windows Phone app to its Windows Store. That'll let you get music, photos, or video over to your computer and back, use Windows 8 apps to share things like searches, automatically save photos or videos taken with your phone to your PC and check your phone's storage to see how it's being used. It'll also let allow you to download phone apps and learn more about your device, while pulling off a trick we've saw first with Apple, then WP7 -- letting you track down your smartphone if it goes missing. You can grab it at the source, then all you'll need is a WP8 (or 7.8) handset -- so stay tuned for our liveblog at 10:00 am PST / 1:00 pm EST to see when that might happen.

Xbox Smartglass lands on Android
Today may be mostly about the launch of Windows 8 for Microsoft, but there’s also some big news for Android users to be found hiding within all the hullabaloo. Microsoft has launched Xbox Smartglass for Android phones, meaning that today you can use your Android handset as something of a second controller for your console. Before you can experience all of the features of Xbox Smartglass though, you’ll need to connect your device to your console, which is done over your home Wi-Fi connection.

Εικόνα

Once you’ve done that, you can use your Android phone as a remote control when you’re playing videos on your Xbox 360, with Microsoft giving you the ability to stop, start, pause, fast forward, and rewind video using your handset. You can also use Smartglass to navigate you content libraries on your console using your device, so the feeling that Smartglass turns your phone into another 360 controller is definitely present.

However, don’t let that dissuade you from downloading the app, as you can also use Smartglass to check our your gameplay stats, including a breakdown of your Gamerscore and achievements. You can also view your avatar on you mobile device, as well as updating social information for your Xbox Live profile. Essentially, Xbox Smartglass lets you view and edit your Live profile, without actually letting you play your games.

Εικόνα

It’s a cool little app to be sure, and we’re excited to see what’s in store for the future of Smartglass, especially on tablets. There’s a lot Microsoft can do with Smartglass, so here’s hoping that Microsoft continues to support it and improve it as time goes on. At the very least, let’s hope that Smartglass doesn’t end up like a certain other Xbox 360 peripheral (cough Kinect cough). If you’re interested in checking out Xbox Smartglass, you can get the app now from the Google Play Store.

Google Music comes to Europe November 13, brings Google Music match, too

Εικόνα

Folks may be more excited about the newest Nexus phones, tablets and their fresh flavor of Jelly Bean, but Mountain View also unveiled a little something for music lovers across the pond today. That's right, Google Music is coming to Europe beginning November 13th. Unfortunately, not everyone on the continent will gain access, but residents of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain will have Google's musical cloud servies in just a couple weeks. Not only that, Big G is adding an iTunes Match-style feature to Google Music that'll scan your songs and add them to your cloud library, no uploading required. The feature will launch in Europe, with US residents enjoying the feature "soon after."

Google bumps Android to 4.2, keeps Jelly Bean moniker
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/goog%20...%20n-moniker/

Εικόνα

Well, it's no Key Lime Pie, but Android 4.2 is certainly a treat in its own right. The latest version of Google's mobile OS makes a number of evolutionary improvements to its already impressive repertoire, including a new quick settings menu that can be accessed from the notification pull down and support for multiple user profiles. The multiple user support is especially handy for tablets like the new Nexus 10, which are much more likely to be shared, and now offer quick and easy user switching right from the lock screen. If you don't want to share your tablet, just what's on it, the new support for Miracast makes will allow you to wirelessly beam movies, games or anything else to a compatible display.

Google has also overhauled the photo experience and added Photo Sphere -- a 360-degree panoramic shooting mode that captures everything around you. Obviously, you'll be able to post those shots to Google+, but you'll also be able to add them to Google Maps, basically creating your own personal Street View.
