Gaikai shown running on Chrome Native Client at Google I/O 2012
During Google I/O 2012 this week, Gaikai presented a look at the service using Google’s Native Client (NaCL) which will allow games to start streaming without the need for downloading or updating Java. In fact, it won’t require any downloads at all or permissions from Java – something Gaikai CEO David Perry mentioned he was previously trying to eliminate. Using NaCL, Gaikai can run at 60fps, and to show how well it runs, the firm demoed Bulletstorm – posted below – running on a Samsung Chromebox during its stage demonstration. No date on when we can expect the full version for Chrome to release, but it’s apparently coming “soon.”

453,000 Yahoo! accounts reportedly hacked
Yahoo! has reportedly suffered a huge user account security breach, with login credentials for in excess of 453,000 users having been released into the wild. Details of which of Yahoo!’s services has been hacked have not been released, though TrustedSec speculates that it is Yahoo Voice based on some of the subdomains included with the leaked list of 453,492 accounts.

Google: Motorola's 'patents and developed technology' worth $5.5 billion, less than half of acquisition cost
How much are Motorola's patents and intellectual property worth? $5.5 billion according to Google, which revealed the figure in a regulatory filing Tuesday. That's a slightly less than half of the total $12.4 billion sum it took to acquire Motorola Mobility — a deal which finally cleared antitrust scrutiny and gained approval in May. Ownership of Motorola's extensive patent portfolio was seen as a key motive for Google's major purchase, allowing the company to better protect its Android OS from litigation. And while the actual figure attached to all that intellectual property might be smaller than some anticipated, the massive pickup is still likely to dissuade some competitors from picking a fight with Google in the courts. Even so, considering how much Google needed to invest in other aspects of Motorola's business, it shouldn't come as a surprise that it may be looking to offload some of the less successful ventures.
