Do you feel guilty for downloading the digital soundtrack of Portal 2, despite it being available online legally from Valve? Do you wish to reward the fine musical composers at Valve for creating such a wonderful soundtrack filled with orchestral, classic, and electronic music with your cold hard cash? Well, you’ll will have your chance on October 30th, because that’s the release date of the four-disc collector’s edition of Portal 2: Songs to Test By. Here’s what the collector’s edition of Portal 2: Songs to Test By will include:
* The Portal 2 soundtrack available in physical form
*The soundtrack to the original Portal game
* The mini-comic, “Turret Lullaby”, which reveals the origin of the singing turrets
Valve has made “Turret Lullaby” available to read online, but the collector’s edition will make the music of the original Portal game available in its entirety for the first time. Before that, the only music from Portal that was available to the public was Jonathan Coulton’s “Still Alive” and its remix on the Orange Box soundtrack. Not included in this musical collection is The National’s “Exile Vilify”, which made its debut in Portal 2, but the song is available for purchase. I’m not sure if the collector’s edition of Portal 2: Songs to Test By is as enticing as it could be, considering most of its content is available online for free, but this physical release will probably be enough to woo Portal fanatics and video game music lovers into purchasing. Amazon is taking pre-orders for Portal 2: Songs to Test By.
