Google launches Chrome app launcher for Windows
The company says the feature will be available to OS X and Linux users "soon" but doesn't say exactly when.



Google's Chrome OS app launcher is now available to Windows users, the search giant announced today.

Available through the Chrome dev channel -- which means it's not a final build -- the application houses all of a user's Web-based apps in one space and allows the user to open them outside of the browser. The apps that work with Chrome's app launcher are written in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS but can be opened while a person is offline.

According to Google, the app launcher icon will show up on the Windows taskbar. However, in order to get it working, users must install a Chrome packaged app. Such apps are not yet searchable on Google's Chrome Web Store, so users will need to have a direct link to add them to the launcher. Developers can also build their own packaged apps and upload them to the Chrome Web Store.

Google is for now offering its app launcher only to Windows users. The company plans to bring it to OS X and Linux "soon."

Apple releases OS X 10.8.4, significant Wi-Fi improvements



The OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 Update is recommended for all OS X Mountain Lion users and includes features and fixes that improve the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including the following:

- Compatibility improvements when connecting to certain enterprise Wi-Fi networks
- Microsoft Exchange compatibility improvements in Calendar
- A fix for an issue that prevented FaceTime calls to non-U.S. phone numbers
- A fix for an issue that may prevent scheduled sleep after using Boot Camp
- Improves VoiceOver compatibility with text in PDF documents
- Includes Safari 6.0.5, which improves stability for some websites with chat features and games
- A fix for an issue that may cause iMessages to display out of order in Messages
- Resolves an issue in which Calendars Birthdays may appear incorrectly in certain time zones
- A fix for an issue that may prevent the desktop background picture from being preserved after restart
- A fix for an issue that may prevent documents from being saved to a server using SMB
- Addresses an issue that may prevent certain files from opening after copied to a volume named "Home"
- A fix for an issue that may prevent changes to files made over NFS from displaying
- Resolves an issue saving files to an Xsan volume from certain applications
- Improves Active Directory log-in performance, especially for cached accounts or when using a .local domain
- Improves OpenDirectory data replication
- Improves 802.1X compatibility with ActiveDirectory networks
- Improves compatibility when using mobile accounts

Apple Releases iTunes 11.0.4 with Improved Syncing and iTunes Store Sign-in Fix



The update weighs in at 187.52MB on the Mac, and is available through the Mac App Store, Software Update, and direct from Apple's Software Download Page. A Windows 64 version is also available.

Περιμενω να δω τι θα δειξει στο Mac OS X... μακραν το καλυτερο λειτουργικο για υπολογιστες.

Ξέρει κανείς πότε περίπου θα βγούν τα OS X Mavericks; Ρωτάω κυρίως γιατί διάβασα ότι μαζί τους θα βγούν και τα καινούρια Macbook pro και ενδιαφέρομαι να πάρω ένα (το απλό, όχι αυτό με την retina). Διαβάζω ότι θα βγούν Φθινόπωρο αλλά αλλού λένε Σεπτέμβρη και αλλού Οκτώβρη. Βασικά θέλω να ξέρω αν θα προλάβω να χρησημοποιήσω την φοιτητική μου έκπτωση καθώς θα φύγω αρχές Οκτώβρη από Αγγλία και θέλω να ξέρω αν θα προλάβω τα καινούρια. Γιατί αν τα προλαβαίνω προφανώς δεν αξίζει να βιαστώ να πάρω το μοντέλο το 2012. Όποιος ξέρει και μπορεί να μάθει ας απαντήσει όποτε μπορεί. Ευχαριστώ.

Υ.Γ. Ξέρω ότι ρωτάω κυρίως για laptop ενώ το συγκεκριμένο θέμα είναι για software αλλά δεν ήξερα που αλλού να ποστάρω και εφόσον το θέμα αφορά λίγο και τα Mavericks είπα να ρωτήσω εδώ. Αν κάποιος mod του φόρουμ ξέρει κάποιο πιο κατάλληλο θέμα ας το μεταφέρει εκεί. Ευχαριστώ.
