Ύστερα από την μεγάλη επιτυχία της IceFrog μέσω του Defend of the Ancients (DotA), mod/χάρτης του Warcraft III, η Valve αποφάσισε να προσλάβει την ομάδα αυτή ώστε να ανεξαρτητοποιηθεί το παιχνίδι. Το DotA 2 αυτή την στιγμή βρίσκεται σε Closed Beta και αποτελεί μία stand-alone αναβαθμισμένη έκδοση του αρχικού παιχνιδιού με άγνωστη ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας.

To Dota 2 θα είναι Free To Play



Σήμερα η Valve ανακοίνωσε ότι το πολυαναμενόμενο Dota 2 θα είναι Free To Play και θα κερδίζουν έσοδα μέ microtransactions μέσω ενός in-game καταστήματος.

Η κίνηση αυτή αποκαλύφθηκε στο επίσημο blog του Dota 2.
"Το Dota 2 δεν θα είναι ένα pay-to-win παιχνίδι. Όλα τα αντικείμενα στο κατάστημα θα είναι κοσμητικά, και δεν θα επηρεάζουν το gameplay... όλοι οι ήρωες θα είναι διαθέσιμοι δωρεάν. Πιστεύουμε ότι ο παίκτης δεν πρέπει να περιορίζεται στην πρόσβαση σε ήρωες αφού θα μπορούσε να είναι καταστροφικό για το σχεδιασμό του παιχνιδιού , οπότε είναι κάτι που σκοπεύουμε να αποφύγουμε."

DOTA 2 patch adds three new heroes



GAMEPLAY

- Drow: Fixed Frost Arrows not working on mechanical units.
- Morphling: Added effects for strength and agility morph as well as an overhead timer for replicate.
- Nature’s Prophet: Fixed Sprout destroying other trees around it.
- Shadow Demon: Fixed Soul Catcher being dispellable.
- Shadow Demon: Fixed Shadow Poison impact damage not hurting Disrupted units (and thus not disabling Blink).
- Fixed targeted spells not temporarily revealing the attacker.
- Fixed Orb of venom working on denies.
- Fixed the following spells being castable on magic immune allies: Nightmare, Frost Armor, Nature’s Guise, Holy Persuasion, Decrepify, Astral Imprisonment, Shadow Word and X Marks The Spot

UI

- Selecting “Equip” on an item in the backpack now flips to the loadout and automatically does the equipping for you.
- Added support for watching replays via URL. For example, “dota2://dota2://matchid=15478&matchtime=300″ will go directly to five minutes into match 15478.
- Added button in replay panel to copy an URL into the clipboard that can be used to get back to that point in that replay.
- Added Hall of Fame trophies to the bases. Clicking on them will display the winning teams of The International.

DOTA 2 BOTS

- Made bots not leave a gank if they currently have the ability to reincarnate and allies are still attacking.
- Fixed bug where bots would pick their heroes before humans locked in their picks.

- Invoker: Fixed Alacrity interaction with Magic Immunity
- Kunkka: Fixed Ghost Ship allied debuff dealing all the damage immediately when then rum wears off, rather than over the following 8 seconds.
- Mirana: Reduced size of Arrow 20%.
- Outworld Destroyer: Aadded visual indicator for Astral Imprisonment Length.
- Riki: Fixed sometimes not attacking his Blink Strike target immediately.
- Spirit Breaker: Fixed a bug allowing charging Razor without moving.

UI
- Added support for tournament spectating passes.
- Select All Other Units feature no longer selects any unit that is lacking attack capability (like Beastmaster’s Hawk).
- Added a buff to indicate the duration of Death Prophet’s Exorcism.
- Updated Aghanim’s Scepter tooltips for Beastmaster, Necrolyte, Queen of Pain, Warlock, and Windrunner.
- Updated the Aghanim’s Scepter store preview.
- Fixed bug where large replays were unable to download.
- Replay downloading is now paralleled to improve download speeds.
- Fixed item purchase message crediting the wrong player if the purchased item stacked with someone else’s item.

VISUALS
- Added a custom particle effect for Skadi.

COSMETICS
- Added announcers and new couriers to the Dota Store.
- Added new items for Witch Doctor.
- Fixed a bug that caused new users not to earn random drops. Affected users will receive the drops they should have gotten when they finish their next match.
- Increased the number of backpack slots displayed on a single page of the backpack to 64.
- Increased the base number of backpack slots from 50 to 64.
- Increased the number of backpack slots that store users have from 500 to 640.
- Fixed a bug that caused the last slot in the backpack to not respond to drag n’ drop.
- Fixed bugs with dragging and dropping items between pages of the backpack.

BOTS
- Co-op bot matches will now randomly assign the human players to Radiant or Dire.
- In co-op bot matches, if a human disconnects before picking a hero, the bots will now correctly balance the teams.
- Fixed bots not selecting heroes into non-AP games.
- Fixed bots not deploying their couriers on Passive difficulty.

DOTA 2 patch welcomes the Templar Assassin, better bots
Those participating in the DOTA 2 beta are already aware that a new hero has been added to the MOBA, but what the uninitiated don’ know, is that this new hero is Lanaya the Templar Assassin.



This is a character you’d use if you are interested in using long-range traps and invisibility – basically someone who likes to gank will enjoy this toon.

Those who are fond of Storm Spirit will be pleased to know he has a new announcer with a flair for the melodramatic, there’s a new breed of special chests full of exclusive goodies opened using a key from the DOTA 2 store.

If that wasn’t enough to please your punches, bots have been reprimanded and are acting better, and a list of bug fixes have been applied, and more.

Valve Adds Three More Dota 2 Heroes
Another three heroes have been added to the roster in the closed beta test for Valve’s Dota 2. Though it hasn’t yet officially launched, Dota 2 is routinely the most popular game on Steam, beating out Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike and Football Manager 2012 in terms of concurrent and peak players.

The added heroes include Keeper of the Light, a ranged pusher, Nyx Assassin, a melee disabler and nuker, and Visage, a ranged support hero.





As noted on the blog, updates will slow down from now until The International competitive tournament, scheduled to take place August 31 through September 2 in Seattle. “With The International arriving in just over a month, we want to give the competing teams some time to practice with a stable Hero roster, and as few new bugs from us as possible. With that in mind, after today’s update we’ll be clamping things down a tad, focusing on getting the existing feature and hero set polished to a high sheen. Fear not, we will continue to work on new heroes internally, getting them ready for a release once The International is over.”

Though Dota 2 does not have a set release date, invites can be purchased and traded within Steam for $30.

DOTA 2 roster expands with Magnus the Magnataur
DOTA 2 has been patched with a pile of new content and tweaks, most notably a proud new hero.



The latest weekly patch brings DOTA 2 more in line with the original DOTA’s 6.75 update, makes significant changes to bots, allows for team creation, and adds a huge pile of new swag to the item shop. You can check the patch notes here.

But mainly, you just wants to know about Magnus. Although he’s described as a Magnataur, apparently he’s actually a magnoceros, a beast with a horn more precious to smiths than any metal or alloy.

Magnus’s homeland was destroyed by a volcanic eruption; his people fled the area but were halted by hunters. Magnus led the fight against them, becoming separated from the rest of his kind, and has vowed revenge on the hunters.

Να κάνω μια χαζή ερώτηση?

Είμαι (πολύ) παλιός παίκτης του Dota, αλλά εδώ και 3 χρόνια το παράτησα...
Το Dota 2 είναι ίδιο με το πρώτο? Εννοώ, είναι οι ίδιοι ήρωες με τις ίδιες κινήσεις κτλ, που απλά έχουν προστεθεί και μερικοί ακόμα + μερικά items ακόμα? 'Η είναι ένα τελείως ανανεωμένο game, με μόνο ίδιο ξερω γω τον χάρτη και τίποτα άλλο? Άλλοι ήρωες, άλλα items, κτλ???

Μου έχουν πει να ξεκινίσω το LoL. Αν όμως σαν κόνσεπτ το Dota2 μιάζει με το Dota, θα προτημούσα να έπαιζα αυτό. Τι με συμβουλεύετε?
