Blizzard jumps on Windows 8 “catastrophe” bandwagon
Blizzard’s Rob Pardo’s echoed negative comments from Valve’s Gabe Newell in relation to Windows 8, saying the upgrade will be less than “awesome” for the PC game-maker.



Said Pardo in a tweet: “Nice interview with Gabe Newell – ‘I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space’ – not awesome for Blizzard either.”

Newell said at this week’s Casual Connect conference that Windows 8, which releases on October 26, will be a disaster for everyone currently involved in the PC market.

Windows 8 features touch and tablet features, as well as seeking to cater for the current desktop audience. Newell, especially, is backing Linux as an alternative to the new version of Windows as Microsoft is apparently seeking to “close” the platform.

OnLive to be available day one on Ouya console
OnLive GM Bruce Grove has announced the streaming service will be available on the Ouya Android games console.



It will be available day one on the console, and subscribers will be able to sign on right away and start streaming, and if you click through the link, you’ll get a better look at the console and its controller.

“When OnLive first heard about Ouya, we were excited to see console gaming becoming more available and open,” said Grove on the console’s Kickstarter page.. “Like Ouya, we came to gaming with a new vision for making top-quality gaming accessible to more people, and we continue to look for ways to expand on that vision.

“Ouya is rethinking the console business, making waves by using standard technology to make gaming for your living room accessible, affordable and more innovative than ever. In OnLive’s case, we pioneered a groundbreaking, cloud-based system that instantly delivers games to any device on demand.

“We are pleased to announce that OnLive will be available on Ouya at launch, extending and building on our commitment to make the best games available to everyone, everywhere.”

Ouya is out in early 2013, and with 12 days left on its Kickstarter, the console has gained 43,401 backers who have pledged $5,548,828.

New Twisted Metal Patch Finally On Its Way
Yes, that’s right, the new Twisted Metal patch that we’ve all have been patiently waiting for is finally releasing soon, according to David Jaffe, former co-founder of Eat Sleep Play.

In a recent YouTube comment reply, Jaffe responded to users who were requesting to know when the title is expected to be fixed. He replied,
“Patch is hitting soon- August 3rd I believe- not sure if it will fix the things you’d like but here’s hoping, sir!”
Now, for those who have been following Jaffe, you’ll know this isn’t 100% definite, but at least we have a date this time rather than the normal “it’s going through testing a bug came up” response that he has been giving for the past few weeks over his Twitter feed. Once again, this patch will bring in new fixes to some bugs, balancing, and further stability improvements to users connection.

Yes, this part is of the single player campaign. But hey, what the heck? It’s been a while since we posted anything Twisted Metal related. Here are two brand new campaign ending videos for Sweet Tooth. The videos aren’t 100% completed as shown with the green screens and the narrative voice overs.

Are Square Enix and EIDOS gearing up for a new Deus Ex game?

An interesting video popped up on YouTube, featuring Stephen Shellen who was the voice behind David Sarif in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. According to the video, Shellen believes the Illuminati are coming for him, and his time is limited before he dies for real. Apparently, the Illuminati are spying on him at present, and he is due to die on July 30th 2012. We’ve seen countless of clever viral marketing tricks and this seems like one. Could Square Enix and EIDOS be gearing up for a new Deus Ex: Human Revolution DLC or a new Deus Ex game? After all, GamesCom is in a few days, meaning that this could very well be a hint for an upcoming announcement. Or is this simply Stephen trolling the gaming community? Arma 3 public hands-on confirmed for Gamescom
Arma 3 developer Bohemia Interactive is giving Gamescom public attendees the chance to go hands-on with the game on the show floor.



Bohemia’s Gamescom booth can be found in Hall 9 – A-22 – Public of the Koelnmesse centre, Cologne. If you’re there you can play Arma 3 on PC between August 15-19.

Minecraft update 1.3 goes live today
Don’t forget: Minecraft 1.3 releases today, August 1, and it contains Adventure Mode and all kinds of crazy stuff. You can view the detailed and extensive changelog here on Reddit. The update also brings trading, LAN support to single-player, allows you to leave messages for other players, increases the game’s resource requirements, and more.

EA release first quarter financial results: how much did they make from PC?



Last night EA announced its financial results for the first quarter of this year, and the figures say some fascinating things about the state of the games industry. There’s number crunching below, along with some interesting insight into the workings of a major publisher.

First, the big news, the report breaks down earning by platform. PC delivered $276 million, the Xbox 360 $292 million and the PS3 $267 million. So the EA, one of the biggest publishers in the world, made more money from the PC than from the PS3.

The PC’s good showing was mostly due to increasing numbers of digital sales. EA made $342 million from those, rising from $232 million last year, while physical sales made $592, dropping from $647 last year. If these trends continue, digital could outpace physical in a year or two, and when that happens at a studio the size of EA, some very interesting things are going to happen to gaming retail.

So where has all that money come from? A lot of it is from Origin, which now has 21 million users. Battlefield Premium also stood out, selling a surprisingly high 1.3 million copies. Fifa Ultimate Team continues to sell like crazy, making $30 million already this year. Rich has something to do with that.

Not everyone can be a winner though, and last nights loser was undoubtedly The Old Republic. Not surprising considering EA just announced that SWTOR was going free to play. The call did shed a little light on why this happened however. VG247 are reporting that SWTORs subscriptions have dipped below a million. According to the results, 40% of players said they didn’t want to play a subscription and might return if the game was free.

So that’s the brave new world of 2012. PCs are making more money than Playstations, digital sales are catching up to physical ones, and subscription fees are going extinct. Hmm.
