Assassin’s Creed 3 PC hit with a delay
Assassin’s Creed 3 looks to be the most exciting entry in the franchise yet, but unfortunately those who were planning to play it on PC will have to wait a little bit longer than those playing on Xbox 360 and PS3. Ubisoft has delayed the PC version of Assassin’s Creed 3 past the originally planned October 30 release date, but didn’t delve into specifics as to why. The publisher did say that it will launch sometime before Christmas though, so at least there’s that.

Ubisoft creative lead Alex Hutchinson announced the delay during a panel today at the San Diego Comic-Con, and even though he couldn’t talk actual dates, he did tell Joystiq that the PC version will still be releasing “near the console launch.”

Of course, this is just the latest in a long, long line of PC delays coming out of Ubisoft. It seems that most – if not all – of Ubisoft’s recent PC games have been hit with a delay at some point during development. The reason behind these delays is unknown; some claim that Ubisoft delays the PC version of its multiplatform games in order to persuade gamers to go for the Xbox 360 or PS3 version instead, while others are willing to give Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt and cite a need for additional polish. Whatever the reason, Ubisoft likes doing it a lot.

So, sorry to say it PC gamers, but it looks like you’ll be left waiting past October 30 for Assassin’s Creed 3. It could be worse though – Ubisoft could have just cancelled the PC version outright, so perhaps we should be thankful it chose not to go that route.

“I think Desmond needs to end, at some point,” says Assassin’s Creed III lead
Assassin’s Creed III creative lead Alex Hutchinson said yesterday during a Ubisoft press conference, that it was time the story of series protagonist Desmond Miles ended.

Εικόνα

According to Hutchinson: “It’s more like the Twilight Zone. There’s always a guy introducing it and he’s there every episode, but each game completes its own story, ” he said via Polygon.

“Assassin’s Creed 1 was Altair’s story. Ezio has been and gone. You can engage with these historical stories individually without having to necessarily understand Desmond’s story. But yes, we eventually do have to wrap it up.

“I think what you do is you finish it. I always pitched it to the guys on this game to think of it almost like Star Trek. Each game is a season… each big number is a sub-title. We’re not changing the universe, but we’re being given the reigns to the equivalent of The Next Generation. Yes, it’s the Star Trek universe, and that has certain immutable laws and there’s a base kind of tone to it, but within that you can do whatever you want.

“I think Desmond needs to end, at some point. You know what I mean? Things that go on too long lack resonance. We’re asking people to remember seven years worth of story. Which is like saying you were in junior high and now you’re finishing college. And you need to remember what you were doing in junior high.”

Hutchinson said the only constant with Assassin’s Creed III, is Desmond, as the game itself contains a new character, story, period, mechanics – much like a new IP.

“Without Desmond, we could have called it anything else, and people would have said okay,” said Hutchinson. “It’s just we like the wrapper of being an assassin and being in this continuing war against Templars. There’s huge value in that. But [AC3] is 90% a new game.”

Assassin’s Creed III is out in the fall.
