Sony postpones launch of new PS Store in Europe



According to a Sony, it’s “really important that the best possible Store experience” is delivered and, the firm asked for patience while the matter is resolved.

The store revamp was scheduled to go live in the UK and Europe yesterday, but Sony reverted the store back to the older version until the issues could be sorted.

Countries where the the new PlayStation Store is live include: Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, UAE, Kuwait , Qatar, India, Israel and South Africa.

The new store is set to launch October 23 in the US.

Dust 514 -- Way of the Mercenary Trailer


With DUST 514, EVE's starship pilots can forge alliances with DUST 514 mercenaries to engage in fierce surface firefights to conquer territories on the planets of New Eden, which are common to both games. The actions of ground troops and orbiting attack fleets are tightly interwoven, with the real time actions of players in one game directly affecting the other. A single bullet fired on the planet below can pivot the balance of power in EVE Online. Every action has consequences, and every reaction has the potential to topple empires.

Sony cuts Q2 2012 losses to $198 million, bumps revenue to $20.6 billion thanks to mobile



After losing a whopping $5.7 billion last year and $312 million last quarter, Sony's recent austerity measures seem to be paying off -- the company lost only $198 million in Q2. It's been madly restructuring since CEO Kazuo Hirai came on board last year and recently shuttered a lens plant in Japan while moving its mobile HQ from Sweden to Tokyo. Altogether, 10,000 jobs cuts are projected this year by Sony to help stanch the red ink, and it looks like it's started to pay off. Notably, the company saw a drop in restructuring costs over last year, when it incurred charges during the sell-off of its display businesses.

Sony's mobile operations continue to generate more revenue, gaining $3.9 billion this quarter -- more than double last year's numbers -- though it still lost $296 million compared to $356 million in Q1. Its chip plants turned around last year's $230 million Q2 loss to earn $382 million this time, likely due in part to its sensors appearing in a large number of various company's DSLRs. Its own imaging division underperformed a bit compared to last quarter but still made a small gain, while its gaming, music and picture businesses each stayed in the black. Finally, while home entertainment products like TVs and home theater systems still lost $203 million, that's a big improvement over that division's dismal $526 million loss in Q2 2011.

Sony is projecting a slight drop in revenue for its fiscal year ending in March 2013, from $85 to $83 billion compared to August's forecast. But the company kept its operating income projection unchanged at $1.6 billion -- thanks to new acquisitions like cloud gamer Gaikai and Olympus, along with such products as the new 84-inch 4K LCD TV and revised PS3 gaming console.

New PlayStation 3 500GB Super Slim Bundle Listed By Retailer, Adds a Year of PlayStation Plus



Currently, the only way to get the 500GB Super Slim PlayStation 3 is if you pick up the Assassin’s Creed III 500GB Bundle for $299.99. It looks like all of that is going to change though, as VideoGamesPlus has posted a listing for the system without Assassin’s Creed III.

This particular PlayStation 3 500GB Super Slim will still retail for $299.99, but it comes with a free 12 month subscription of PlayStation Plus. As the poorly uploaded box shot by VGP shows you (we couldn’t blow it up any more unfortunately), the PS+ card has an over $200 value in terms of free games via the Instant Game Collection.



So, if you want to pick up one of the really thin PS3 systems and don’t care for either the Uncharted 3: GOTY 250GB Bundle or the ACIII 500GB Bundle, this is definitely the one for you.

If you don’t live in Canada, other retailers might be listing it soon, assuming that this is real and will be making its way to all of North America or possibly even Europe. PSLS will keep you updated on whether the bundle spreads to other retailers.

Gran Turismo series has shifted 67.8 million units to date
Gran Turismo 5 may have taken an age to release, but why rush it when sales of 67.8 million is the reward? Developer Polyphony Digital has released official Gran Turismo series stats. Anyone want to guess which game has sold the most? Find out below.



The stats, as published on Polyphony’s site, show a series in rude health. Here’s a global breakdown of units sold across the series so far:

- Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2) – 14.89 million
- Gran Turismo 4 (PS2) – 11.6 million
- Gran Turismo (PSX) – 10.85 million
- Gran Turismo 2 (PSX) – 9.37 million
- Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) – 9.01 million units
- Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3) – 5.35 million
- Gran Turismo (PSP) – 3.86 million
- Gran Turismo Concept Series (PS2) – 1.56 million
- Gran Turismo 4 Prologue (PS2) – 1.4 million

It comes as Gran Turismo 6 is already confirmed as being in development for PS4. With numbers like these, who could blame them?

Uncharted: Fight for Fortune turns up on Classification Board database
The Australian Classification Board database has revealed a mysterious new Uncharted title.



Uncharted: Fight for Fortune is listed as a multi-platform release from Sony, and has been awarded a G rating for “very mild impact” violence and drug use.

The developer is listed as One Loop Games, whose oeuvre includes downloadable Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network titles, as well as an extensive list of mobile releases. Most seem to be spin-odd to existing franchises, including a couple of Sony ones – God of War: Betrayal and Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile.

The Los Angeles-based company’s website lists two secret projects, one of which is a “big game”.

No announcements have been made regarding the future of the Uncharted series; naughty Dog continues to support the third game, Drake’s Deception, but is also working on 2013 release The Last of Us
