Borderlands 2 Lead Writer Discusses New DLC And Gearbox’s Dark Brand Of Comedy



Anthony Burch, lead writer for Borderlands 2, published an open letter today on the official Gearbox blog. In it, he discusses the fourth DLC installment for Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, and sheds some light on Gearbox’s writing philosophies regarding humor and tragedy throughout the Borderlands series.

Burch admits in his letter that the new DLC has a relatively simple premise, but assures players that it provides a serious meditation on past events within the Borderlands universe. Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep plots players inside a virtual, tabletop roleplaying game in which the evil Handsome Sorcerer has kidnapped the Queen of Flamerock Refuge. Below the surface, however, it explores Tina’s struggle to cope with the loss of her loved ones.

Those who have played even a few minutes of Borderlands 2 will be familiar with its wacky sense of humor, which Burch addresses in his letter as well. He writes about the juxtaposition of comedy and death in many of the game’s quests, comparing it to dramatic television series like Firefly and the spinoff film, Serenity. He also discusses the narrative boundaries that Gearbox has set when writing content for Borderlands games.

Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep is the biggest Borderlands 2 add-on to date. It arrives on June 25, 2013 for PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Σύμφωνα με τον CEO της Gearbox Randy Pitchford το Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep δεν θα είναι το τελευταίο DLC για το Borderlands 2. “Κυκλοφορήσαμε ένα season pass για το Borderlands 2, με το σκεπτικό ότι εάν ο κόσμος το αγοράσει θα δημιουργήσουμε τέσσερα campaign add-ons, όμως το κοινό θα πληρώσει για τα τρία από αυτά εάν τα αγοράσει όλα εξ' αρχής», σημείωσε αρχικά ο Pitchford.



«Οπότε όπως υποσχεθήκαμε, πρόκειται να υπάρξει και άλλο επιπλέον περιεχόμενο για το παιχνίδι, ενώ θα δείτε και άλλα πράγματα. Ακόμα δεν έχουμε αποφασίσει κάτι και δεν μπορώ να σας ανακοινώσω κάτι σχετικά με αυτά. Το μόνο σίγουρο για την ώρα είναι το ότι το Assault On Dragon Keep δεν θα είναι το τελευταιό DLC του Borderlands 2“, τόνισε κλείνοντας.

Borderlands 2's second Ultimate Vault Hunter DLC pack dated & detailed
Increases level and adds Digistruct Peak Challenge, out this Tuesday

Gearbox is just about ready to launch even more content for Borderlands 2, as unveiled last month. First up is the Ultimate Vault Hunter Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge, which lands on September 3rd.

To detail exactly what's in the pack, they've taken to the Gearbox Blog and revealed this table so you can judge exactly what you'll get for your money: as well as a level cap increase, and some Badass weapons, the second pack also adds the Digistruct Peak mission - a new mission that we're promised only the fiercest warriors will survive.

Meanwhile, if you do already own the first pack and then get the second one, you'll benefit even more - you'll be able to level your Vault Hunter all the way up to 72 and gain access to the new "Legendary" class mods and even more Badass weapons - and those that survive the trials of Digistruct Peak also earn the chance to earn weapons up to the giddy heights of Level 80 with stats to match.

It's important to note however, that unlike the first Ultimate Vault Hunter pack, this DLC is not part of the Season Pass, nor is it included in the Borderlands 2 GOTY Edition revealed earlier this week. Gearbox has already said there won't be a second season pass, but don't forget that more new content in the way of the first Headhunter pack - TK Baha's Bloody Harvest - should be following this release by October in time for Halloween.



The Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge should cost the same as the price of the previous Upgrade pack was to buy separately - so that's £3.49 over here in our new MSP-less world. Will you be picking it up and heading back to the Borderlands?
