Xbox One swings into full production for November release, gets a CPU boost

No amount of news about the Xbox One can compete with holding the console in your hands -- thankfully, production is now in full swing for the planned November release. This was announced by Xbox Chief Marketing Officer Yusef Mehdi at the Citi Global Technology Conference, where he also revealed that the final product will have a slightly faster CPU than expected. Instead of the 1.6GHz processor we thought the console would have, it will be equipped with a 1.75GHz CPU. We can add that to the list of things we've found out about the console these past two months, including its GPU clock speed boost, lack of external storage support at launch and ability to recognize up to eight controllers at once. While Sony already has a specific target date for the PS4 launch, Microsoft has yet to conjure up one for its newest console, although that could change at the Tokyo Game Show.

Microsoft to enable Xbox One digital game trading 'when the time is right'
"I think we need to do that", says Xbox director Albert Penello
The loaning and trading of digitally-downloaded games on Xbox One is something Microsoft intends to implement in future, according Xbox director Albert Penello.
One major drawback of buying a digital game is the inability to trade in or lend out that game as you would a retail disc. But Penello told Gamespot that lending and trading digital games "has to be part of the experience".

"That was one of the places that we were actually trying to pioneer," said Penello when asked about digital game trading. "We were trying to implement the ability to trade [and] loan digital games with your friends which is something that no one else was doing," he said in reference to the Xbox One's now axed Family Sharing initiative.
Family Sharing was one of the more unifying announcements surrounding Xbox One's controversial digital policies, which would have allowed players to share their entire game library with ten designated 'family members'.
Specific details on how the system would have worked weren't revealed before Microsoft confirmed that it was putting the idea on the backburner following its decision to reverse various Xbox One DRM policies.
But Penello indicates that Microsoft will revisit the idea. "I think we need to do that. That has to be part of the experience," he said.
"Right now, we're focused on launch and we switched the program back to discs, because that's what customers wanted.
"I get a lot of mails saying 'god, please bring back the family sharing.' We'd love to figure out how to bring that back. I still think it was a good idea. Maybe it was a little too soon for some people, but I still think there were a lot of good ideas in there. And we'll bring it back when the time is right."
This mirrors a previous statement from Xbox One chief product officer Marc Whitten, who said of the possibility of reintroducing Family Sharing, "If it's something that people are really excited about and want, we're going to make sure that we find the right way to bring it back."

Xbox One ends up in leaker’s hands; video shows off Dashboard and gameplay

The Xbox One was revealed in all of its glory months ago and since then, we’ve had a steady stream of official news from Microsoft on the product. Because of that, we’re not too sure this video reveals anything new. But it is curious because unless this is some viral Microsoft marketing campaign (don’t put it past them), the Xbox One hardware has evidently ended up in non-official hands, making it ripe for teardowns and tours of the unfinished hardware and software.
The video, posted by ‘Jackson Carter’, is just over 2 minutes long and is narrated. The video begins with the new Xbox One controller and they we’re given a brief tour of the Xbox One console, before going to the Dashboard (you can even spy the Kinect 2 below the TV).
From there, we see some navigation of the Dashboard and gameplay or Ryse: Son of Rome Demo, before quickly toggling back to the Dashboard. What’s really cool of course is seeing the game still playing the cut scene while minimized in the Dashboard, showing off the multitasking power of the One. The software is reported as still being “buggy”.
