Agni’s Philosophy tech videos demonstrate character tweaking
A couple new videos for Agni’s Philosophy, Square’s Luminous engine tech demo, have popped up. The videos show various changes being implemented to the characters’ appearances. Square Enix first demonstrated the tech at an after-hours E3 2012 event.

Warren Spector Hints At Epic Mickey 3
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is out right now on Wii and Wii U. The game sees you painting your way through several Disney-esque levels with Mickey and his pal Oswald and is designed with two players in mind.

In an interview with Red Bull, Warren Spector, the man behind Epic Mickey, has hinted at a trilogy with a desire to add a third instalment to the series:

I'd love to see the Disney Epic Mickey series continue - there are plenty of stories still to tell about Wasteland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse!

Epic Mickey 2 does incorporate some musical elements, but it looks as though he wants to improve on it further in the next game. When talking about the game’s soundtrack, Spector had this to say about a possible upcoming title:

We go a step further, changing the actual orchestration based on how you choose to deal with game challenges.

They're not interactive - in THIS game - but using songs as storytelling tools seemed necessary for a game that claims to honor Disney's creative history.

It’s not just Epic Mickey that interests the industry legend though – Spector also has a plethora of ideas for Disney’s other characters saying the team will “never run out of material”:

I'd love to see some Oswald games, where he's on his own. He deserves a shot at solo stardom. Then there are the ‘duck’ games - Donald, Scrooge, etc - that are just waiting to be made. And a bunch of us at Junction Point have thoughts about Goofy and the Gremlins and a hundred others.

Anyone who’s ever played Goof Troop on the SNES will certainly be hoping Goofy gets another game made about him – or maybe that’s just us…

Why Google predicts Microsoft’s next game console will beat Sony’s
Based on searches on Google, Microsoft’s next-generation game console will probably be more popular than Sony’s.

Εικόνα

Neither company has talked officially about their plans for new consoles, which the industry has nicknamed the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4. But a story in online game news site Ludos Mundi predicts that Microsoft’s Xbox 720 will win based on the searching that users are already doing for the new consoles.

In the past 11 months, searches for information on the new Xbox have far exceeded searches for the PS 4 or PlayStation 4, according to Google Trends. On a worldwide basis, people search for Xbox 720 about 60 percent of the time, compared to 40 percent for the PS 4. In the U.S., about 66 percent of the searches are for the Xbox 720, and 34 percent for Sony’s future machine.

Google Trends accurately predicted the winner of the next-generation DVD format, showing that results favored Blu-ray movies over HD-DVD movies. The graph at right shows that the Xbox 720 is becoming more popular over time.

To search for yourself, go to Google Trends and compare Xbox 720 and PS 4 using the “forecast” feature, with the settings on 2004 to the present.

If I were Sony, I would hire an army of users to search on the PS 4 or PlayStation 4.

As an aside, the number of searches for Nintendo’s new game console, the Wii U, has been declining since its launch in late November. What does that mean?

Valve confirms the development of its own console
Valve Software known for famous games like Team Fortress, Half Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal and others, has officially announced that to launch its own console in 2013. This company is also behind the program for Steam players wants to step beyond software and start developing some hardware to satisfy some need unattended players.

Εικόνα

While not many details have been given about this new console Valve will begin to develop for 2013 is a hybrid style console Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and PC.

One point to be achieved with this new device will be able to play PC games in your living room with a 32-inch screen that can achieve something by moving the computer, but that does not belong there.

Another point touched by the president of Valve, Gabe Newell, was suffering substantial difference current consoles on the best consoles While PCs can only run at 32 fps computers can achieve up to twice the frames per seconds. This is a noticeable difference in any game to eye level and really no justification for being.

Valve recently launched a beta version of Steam for Linux which has been widely accepted. In conjunction with this operating system seems to the new console will find their part in the software.
A hybrid between console and PC

The new console will not be as open as a PC for handling and software programs, but both will be much more forgiving than a regular console.

Although there were not many details on the inside or outside of this new console Valve explained that it will be at the level of the next generation consoles. Leaving behind the mature and Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

For my part I think will be an interesting to play but hard to capture as they will have to find a way to move the keyboard and mouse to your room and your couch. Otherwise you will lose a lot of games and gameplay beyond the attempt will fail.

That aside I hope that Valve can do a good job, but until new data to appear on the table this will be just an idea.

Steam top ten sellers chart: December 9-15
Valve has revealed Steam's top selling products chart for the past week, which features a couple of familiar faces atop the list.

For the second week running, Far Cry 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II have finished first and second respectively. After that, it gets a bit more interesting thanks to special discounts and a new release.

The Crysis series obviously had itself a franchise sale this weekend (still going on), with the Crysis Collection reaching the third spot and Crysis 2 hitting seventh place.

Published indie (perhaps an oxymoron?) shooter Ace of Spades makes a strong first impression, debuting in fifth.

1. Far Cry 3
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
3. Crysis Collection
4. Street Fighter X Tekken
5. Ace of Spades
6. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
7. Crysis 2 Maximum Edition
8. Don't Starve
9. ArmA II: Combined Operations
10. Borderlands 2

Saints Row: The Third has reached more than 5.5 million players, says Rubin
Saints Row: The Third has been played by 5.5 million people, according to a tweet from THQ president Jason Rubin. Although it’s not clear if the figure refers to units shipped or sold, the “hit nobody realized was a hit” had shipped 5 million units worldwide in November, suggesting it’s probably the former. Rubin said this total doesn’t include Humble Bundle Sales, which would round out to about 6.3 million. The next Saints Row game began life as an expansion but will be fleshed out to a full sequel.

Game developer THQ files for bankruptcy protection, will sell off assets and games

Εικόνα

Game developer THQ has just announced that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and will be selling off its studios and games in development. According to THQ's press release, the company will continue daily operation as normal and it will be proceeding with developing all games currently in the pipeline. THQ also announced it had entered into an agreement with affiliates of Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. acting as a "stalking horse bidder" — basically, a company willing to enter a bid on a company in order to garner it a certain value in the marketplace. Clearwire has put forth approximately $60 million, and has asked the court to finalize the sale within the next month.

THQ makes clear that customers should see no changes due to the move, and that it will not be laying off any employees. The company has also secured commitments of around $37.5 million in financing from Wells Fargo and Clearlake to help it through the transition.

Chairman and CEO Brian Farrell said in the company's statement that "The sale and filing are necessary next steps to complete THQ's transformation and position the company for the future, as we remain confident in our existing pipeline of games, the strength of our studios and THQ's deep bench of talent."

President Jason Rubin added that "We have incredible, creative talent here at THQ. We look forward to partnering with experienced investors for a new start as we will continue to use our intellectual property assets to develop high-quality core games, create new franchise titles, and drive demand through both traditional and digital channels."

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier sequel spotted
A sequel to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier seems to be in the works, according to materials spotted by eagle-eyed fans.

Εικόνα

A member of the Ubisoft forums spotted a reference to the “‘GRFS: Next’ team” in a slide from Ubisoft Kiev’s annual meeting.

The Ukrainian studio produced the PC port of this year’s Future Soldier release, and the slide seems to indicate the core development team wants to work closely with Kiev on the next title.

The slide also makes mention of the “tough” conditions the port was produced under, without giving any details. The PC version of Future Soldier was announced, cancelled, and then re-announced, causing something of a controversy.

Future Soldier holds a Metacritic average of 79 on both playStation 3 and Xbox 360, but a 71 on PC. It sold well enough to boost Ubisoft’s quarterly revenue by 27%, which was disappointing for those of us wretchedly sick of making the typo “Future Solider”.

World of Tanks infographic boasts 45 million players
Happy holidays, World of Tanks, and congratulations on being almost as enormous as this image file.

The tank battler is played in all corners of the world including Vatican City; apparently deacons and archbishops are among its 45 million players.

World of Tanks attracts up to 617,000 simultaneous players, and has been played for 230,000 years in total. 600 million battles took place in this time, destroying 13.2 billion tanks.

Cor blimey. All the details and much more below.
